Association's 67th Advanced Postgraduate Course
Held in San Francisco, CA
"This year's Postgraduate Course is all about applying evidencebased recommendations in real-world settings," commented Jane
K. Kadohiro, DrPH, MS, APRN, CDE, FAADE, at the start of
the 67th annual Advanced Postgraduate Course (#ADAPostgrad).
Dr. Kadohiro, along with Edward S. Horton, MD, and Melinda
D. Maryniuk, MEd, RD, CDE, served as the planning committee
for this 3-day American Diabetes Association (ADA) meeting
that attracted more than 300 physicians, physician assistants, nurse
practitioners, dietitians, diabetes educators, pharmacists, and other
diabetes professionals.
The meeting, held from January 31 to February 2 in San
Francisco, CA, featured a world-renowned faculty presenting
the latest guidelines and highlighting their application in case
studies exemplifying patients that clinicians encounter every day.
Session topics included nutrition, weight management, glycemic
time in range, social determinants of health, nonalcoholic fatty
liver disease, behavioral medicine, and more.
"There were some intriguing panel discussions that brought together
key experts with varying perspectives," Ms. Maryniuk said. "The
audience was very engaged in the debate session focused on clinical
guidelines that included panelists from the American Association
of Clinical Endocrinologists, American College of Physicians, and
the Endocrine Society. There were also lively discussions in the other
panel discussions, as well as our workshops."
The program concluded with a discussion on emerging technologies
and future directions for diabetes care and self-management.
In addition to the sessions, meeting attendees participated in
ancillary activities, including a pre-conference workshop focused
on ADA's Safe at School program, which ensures that children

setting, ADA's Education Recognition Program symposium, and
the Association's Women's Interprofessional Network (WIN
ADA) networking reception.
Postgraduate Course attendees received up to 15 continuing
education credits or Maintenance of Certification points.
"As the planning committee, we feel confident that attendees
walked away from the meeting with increased resources,
knowledge, and connections, which will enable them to better
support patients with diabetes," Dr. Kadohiro said.
