Encourage your patients to join our free, educational Ask the Experts Q&A series. We
offer an opportunity for people with diabetes to ask questions of our experts and hear
from others who might share similar experiences. Participants can join the hour-long
sessions online or over the phone. All events will be held at 2:00 p.m. ET unless noted.

Advocacy News

Recent Diabetes Advocacy Wins and Updates
While the new year is still young, we're
taking stock and celebrating the strides
made in diabetes advocacy in 2020.
Together, we have had some important
victories at an especially difficult time for
the diabetes community:
At the federal level, the American
Diabetes Association (ADA) supported
people with diabetes during the
coronavirus 2019 pandemic, worked
to expand telehealth and continuous
glucose monitoring access, and stood
up for federal diabetes research and
programs. In the regulatory space, we led
an effort to urge insurance companies
to continue waiving co-payments for
telehealth visits, secured access to
diabetes technology for more veterans,
and more.

At the state level, we secured insulin
co-payment caps in 13 states and made
progress in more than 20 additional states.

Finally, the ADA engaged Grassroots
advocates with eight virtual town
halls with lawmakers, launched a new

opportunities.

Furthermore, the Legal Advocacy team
accelerated victories for children with
diabetes at school and ensured the rights
of people with diabetes to vote and work
safely, including breaking barriers with
the Federal Aviation Administration to
allow commercial pilots with insulintreated diabetes to fly.
