Guide to Global Payroll Management LEAVES Employment and Labour Standards Acts provide for various types of job-protected leaves. Some of the more common leaves include, but are not limited to: bereavement leave compassionate care and caregiver leaves domestic or family violence leave maternity, parental and adoption leaves personal illness or family responsibility leaves Although employees may be eligible for Employment Insurance (EI) benefits when a leave occurs, it is the employment/labour standards legislation that provides the employee with job protection and sometimes the continuation of benefits during the leave. Most leaves required under employment standards legislation are unpaid, however, in some cases, an employer may be required to pay for some duration of the leave. Also, EI benefits may be available to an employee who takes certain leaves.
