give his presentation, "Guardian of the
Republic-Vision for Our Country," during
breakfast on Monday, Aug. 3. Moors, a
professor of political science and social/public policy at Duquesne University, will be
the keynote speaker at Monday's membership luncheon. Cross says Moors will
speak on "How Four Major Factors Are
Influencing 2015 U.S. Oil Dynamics."
The association confirms it will host its
Board of Directors and membership meeting
on Sunday, Aug. 2, and concurrent technical
sessions will run throughout Monday.
Cross states the association has included
a wide range of speakers and topics for
the technical sessions:
* A panel on state and national energy
policies with three Kansas' U.S. Representatives;
* A panel about lesser prairie chicken
mitigation strategies and regulatory risk
with three Kansas-based panelists: an operator, a regulatory compliance consultant,
and an attorney;
* A presentation on drilling innovations in Fredonia, Ks., by Mark See of
Stranded Oil Resources; and
* An update about Kansas' seismic
activity with representatives from the
Kansas Geological Survey and the Kansas
Corporation Commission.
The chairman's reception, with live
music, will be Sunday night, and Russ'
Ragin' Cajun Party is scheduled for Monday night. Scheck encourages members
and attendees to "get into the Cajun
spirit," with Monday night's Cajun-themed
food and entertainment.
On Tuesday, Aug. 4, KIOGA notes it
will host its annual golf, sporting clays,
and gin rummy tournaments. There also
will be concurrent spouse events on Monday and Tuesday.
During Sunday's board of directors
and membership meeting, Scheck says
he officially will pass the chairman's
gavel to his successor. Although Scheck
says he is sad his term is ending, he clarifies that he will stay on the KIOGA
Board of Directors as a past chairman.
Scheck says his successor will be announced at the Aug. 2 meeting.
According to Cross, even though the
national oil market has declined since
the group's last annual meeting, KIOGA
is expecting a large turnout again. "We
anticipate more than 100 exhibitors and
1,000-1,200 attendees," he details. "I
think the new venue will work well. It
gives us plenty of room for every portion
of the convention-from the technical sessions, to the social events, to the exhibit
hall. We were bursting at the seams
before, but I think Century II will allow
for more room to breathe and grow." ❒
