a resulting pressure increase. Because
of its size, the 100-mesh sand also has a
greater potential to enter pre-existing
formation fractures and act as a propping
agent to maintain connectivity between
the sidetrack wellbore and the natural
fractures/pre-existing hydraulic fractures.
Because of the proppant placement
issues encountered in the previous well,
the second change was to slightly decrease proppant concentration to improve
placement. Because of the petrophysical
analysis and the treatment design modifications, 98 percent of the total design
proppant was placed in the sidetrack
well compared with only 74 percent in
the initial well.
Of course, the ultimate measure of
the success of any completion operation
is production performance. The sidetrack's productivity was quite strong
and was maintained at between 245 and
270 barrels of oil a day for almost 145
days. In fact, the operator considers the
sidetrack as one of its more productive
and successful wells drilled in the Woodford play to date.

TRENT SCAGGS is operations manager at Oklahoma City-based Payne
Exploration Co. and drilling manager
at Red Bluff Resources. Before joining
Payne Exploration in 2015, he served
as a drilling engineer at Schlumberger,
an application engineer at GE Baker
Hughes, a drilling/operations engineer
at Devon Energy, and a roughneck at
Helmerich & Payne. Scaggs holds a
B.S. in petroleum engineering from the
University of Oklahoma.
EREK HUTTO is an adviser of petrophysics at Halliburton's Oklahoma City
office and principle petrophysicist in
the Mid-Continent region responsible
for interpretation and multiwell petrophysics. He joined Halliburton in 2006
as a wireline field engineer in the
Piceance Basin, and subsequently served
as well log consultant, senior consultant
for well log analysis, principal consultant
of well log analysis and petrophysics.
He holds a B.S. in electrical engineering
from the Colorado School of Mines.

BILL GRIESER is chief adviser, global technical services, at Halliburton.
He began his career with Halliburton
in 1978 as a field engineer, and his 39year career has focused primarily on
well completion and stimulation engineering, including extensive experience
in applying hydraulic fracturing technologies to unconventional reservoirs.
Grieser holds a B.S. in nuclear engineering and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the Missouri University
of Science & Technology.
JAMES CALVIN is a technical sales
adviser at Halliburton in Oklahoma
City. Specializing in hydraulic fracturing
and production enhancement, he joined
the company in 2009 as a senior technical professional. Calvin holds an
M.B.A. from the University of Oklahoma
and a B.S. in chemical engineering
from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
