not only influence the metered water rate,
but also the oil and gas rates because
they are part of these calculations. If the
minimum differential pressure is too high,
the well can be producing while the multiphase meter reads zero. If the minimum
differential pressure is too low, the meter
can read a positive rate while the well is
shut in.
The Who Dat team used a trial-anderror method to identify the most appropriate minimum differential pressure, and
it varies based on the well. The subsea
multiphase meters' key parameters are
monitored continuously, including pressure
and temperature transmitters. The meters
have maintained uptime (physically running) greater than 99 percent and real
uptime (no issues with PVT, minimum
differential pressure, transmitters, etc.)
greater than 95 percent.
Since the multiphase meters have been
so reliable, allocating lease automatic
custody transfer measurements directly
to meters as the allocation method was
proposed by LLOG and approved by the
Bureau of Safety & Environmental Enforcement. To have accurate allocations,
meter validation tests against separators
and LACT meters were initially performed
every six months by shutting in the test
XINGLAI GONG is a reservoir engineer at LLOG Exploration Company,
where he runs integrated reservoir studies of Who Dat and other fields, including production surveillance, geological modeling, geophysics, petrophysics, EOR, economics, production
systems, production allocation, PTA,
and programming. Gong has been with
LLOG for seven years and holds a B.S.
in statistics from Peking University, an
M.S. in statistics from the University
of Cincinnati, an M.B.A. in business
from the University of Texas at Austin,
and a Ph.D. in petroleum engineering
from Texas A&M University.
JERRY SIMMS has served at LLOG
Exploration Company since 2007. He
has more than three decades of industry
experience, including 28 years at
BP/Amoco. Simms has held various engineering and management positions,
including reservoir engineer, petrophysicist and production supervisor. He
holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering
from Louisiana State University.
RICK FOWLER is chief operating officer of LLOG Exploration Company. He
joined LLOG as vice president of deepwater projects in 2007. During his career,

If the difference between subsea meters
and surface meters is greater than 10
percent, the key parameters are checked
to ensure they are working correctly. If
any parameter is not working properly,
it is corrected and the well is retested. If
all key parameters are working correctly,
the PVT input is modified so the difference between the meters is less than 10
percent. The subsea multiphase meters
consistently have been within 5 percent
of separator meters, and on average,
within 1.5 percent.

JOHN DOUGHTIE is vice president
of exploration in LLOG's Houston office.
Since joining the company in 2002, he
has worked and managed several exploration and production projects in the
Gulf of Mexico and onshore the Gulf
Coast. With three decades of industry
experience, Doughtie was president of
Linder-Doughtie Energy prior to joining
LLOG. He holds a B.S. in geology from
the University of Oklahoma.
EARL CUMMING is a geological con-

sultant at LLOG Exploration Company,
where he primarily provides geomodeling
services. Cumming has 37 years of industry experience, including more than
30 years of service at Shell. He has
worked on deepwater Gulf of Mexico
projects for the past 18 years. Cumming
holds a B.S. in geological engineering
from the University of Arizona.
