Haskel Offers Gas Booster
That Creates Less Noise
BURBANK, CA.-Haskel has introduced the Q-Drive electric gas booster,
which it describes as quiet and clean.
Unlike air-operated and hydraulicdriven boosters, which can exceed the
Occupational Safety and Health Administration's 85-dBA noise threshold,
Haskel says the Q-Drive remains under
77 dBA during operation. The electric
unit consumes a third as much as energy
as pneumatic units while delivering
flow rates 10-20 times higher, the company reports.
The Q-Drive uses a simplified linear
actuator drive rather than the reciprocating motor seen in some electric
boosters to improve reliability, Haskel
says, adding that each unit comes with
sophisticated remote and self-diagnostic
capabilities.

Gyrodata Sells Business To Focus On Surveying
HOUSTON-Gyrodata Inc. says it has
sold its directional drilling business to
Intrepid Directional Drilling Specialists
Ltd., an independent directional drilling
services provider in North America.
The sale includes all Gyrodata's directional drilling personnel, as well as its
high-performance drilling motors and
MWD tools, Gyrodata describes.
Intrepid points out that the transaction
doubles its directional drilling capabilities in North America while expanding
its presence into certain Latin American
countries.

Control School (WCS) announces the
SMART knowledge retention program,
an online library that includes 400 training videos.
According to WCS, the program's
goal is to help students make equally
good decisions 20 months after their
last class as they would the day after
they passed their test. The library allows
subscribers to review objectives using
a keyword system linked to specific
training goals. WCS adds that training
administrators can assemble multiple
microcourses while coaching and evaluating individual learners in real time
to ensure an optimal outcome, whether

they are in the field or the classroom.
"Recall of objectives learned in one
week of well control certification training
will begin to diminish almost immediately
after the training is over. The SMART
knowledge retention program can present
each of those learned objectives to the
trainee in brief minilessons spread over
time, resulting in greater recall. SMART's
flexibility allows the training manager
to auto-schedule lessons, assessments
and boosters customizable to any work
