Equatorial Guinea Gives
Licensees More Flexibility
MALABO, EQUATORIAL GUINEA-
To position exploration and production
companies for a strong recovery following
COVID-19, Equatorial Guinea has extended all exploration blocks across its
sedimentary basin for two years, the
African Energy Chamber reports.
According to the country's Ministry of
Mines and Hydrocarbons, companies will
benefit from extensions to carry out seismic
and exploratory drilling activities, as well
as capital expenditure relaxations. It says
deferring some work programs can help
these companies adjust their spending and
execution timelines to make more efficient
investments as markets recover.
American independents affected by the
new measures include VAALCO Energy,
which holds a 31% working interest in
Block P; Kosmos Energy, which operates
Blocks W, EG-21 and EG-24; and Noble
Energy, which operates the Alen Field.
"Equatorial Guinea has adopted a market-driven approach to the current industry
challenges, which we believe is a winning
strategy to ensure a quick recovery of
our economies," declares NJ Ayuk, the
African Energy Chamber's executive
chairman. "We are strongly encouraging
neighboring countries to continue their
efforts and work with local and international companies to put the right measures
