New Incubator Supports
African Businesswomen
CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA-The
Africa Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF) has launched a
new initiative, "Enterprise Development
for Women-Owned Ventures in Green Energy," to support renewable and green energy production in Malawi and Nigeria.
The 12-month program is funded by
the African Women's Development Fund
and involves two phases. The first phase
is a startup incubator designed to help 30
women from each country design, refine
and launch their renewable and green
energy business ideas, AWIEF details.
The incubator will be followed by an
accelerator that will assist five established
renewable and green energy womenowned/led ventures from each country
with entrepreneurial training and preparation
for investment readiness, AWIEF continues.
The group says the program offers an opportunity to access venture financing.

SPE Financial Conference To Emphasize Resilience
LONDON-Petroleum and finance leaders will gather to discuss the future of
upstream investment at the Society of
Petroleum Engineers Virtual Upstream
Finance and Investments Conference,
which SPE notes is scheduled to be held
digitally Nov. 11-12.

HOUSTON-Weir Oil & Gas has
launched an offline cementing solution it
says substantially reduces nonproductive
time and operating costs.
NPT is common in multipad drilling
as crews wait on one another to complete
each operation, Weir observes. The company says its cementing solution returns
valuable drilling time to operators by removing cementing from the critical path.
The solution incorporates Weir's Quick
Connect for tool-free setup in eight min-

utes, Weir describes. BOP configuration
adjustments are unnecessary, and testing
isolation in the backside of the well is
possible for greater security and well integrity, Weir says, adding that field crews
can be managed with pinpoint accuracy
to reduce costs.
According to the company, operators
using the solution have saved as much as
11 hours of NPT and $38,000 per well.

TGS announces it has completed the East Coast
Canada Facies Map Browser and Play Fairway
Analysis, which uses data it acquired in partnership with PGS to offer a subsurface interpretation
for the entire offshore East Coast of Canada. The
study integrates all released exploration wells
with a vast seismic data library to provide the
most comprehensive multiclient interpretation
available for the region, TGS says. According to
the company, it underscores a promising future
for exploration in the region by providing detailed
insights into the key reservoir and source facies
within known plays, such as the Late Jurassic,
within the proven Jeanne D'Arc and Flemish Pass
basins, and revealing significant upside in the
prospectivity of the Paleogene and Cretaceous,
especially in underexplored basins such as the
Hopedale, Flemish, Salar and South Whale. For

After the opening panel, SPE President
Shauna Noonan, director of artificial lift
engineering at Occidental, will deliver a
midday keynote. The conference also
will feature more than 125 papers on
topics ranging from new technology to
field applications.
As part of the move to a virtual format,
SPE mentions, Wednesday's conference
wrap-up has been lengthened from a halfday to a day to showcase a full life cycle-a primary, secondary, and tertiary
case history documenting the entire life
of a reservoir from discovery through enhanced recovery. The event will conclude
with short courses on Sept. 3 and 4.
