Victaulic Couplings Help Limit Fugitive Emissions

NEW YORK-Hess Corp. announces
it has placed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index North America for the
eleventh consecutive year.
The index, which Hess says recognizes
public companies for outstanding performance across economic, environmental
and social factors, is referenced by shareholders who consider sustainability when
making investment decisions. Hess points
out that it is one of three oil and gas producers in the index.

EASTON, PA.-A third-party test shows
that Victaulic's couplings are more effective at stopping fugitive emissions
from tank batteries than standard flanges,
the company reports.
In accordance with the MESC SPE
77/300 and ISO 15848-1 standards, the
independent lab's reports say it has evaluated fugitive emission leakage by applying helium at 1,500 psi to four Victaulic
HP-70ES high-pressure coupling assemblies, and four Class 600 flange assemblies.
A similar assessment was conducted at
750 psi using Class 300 flange assemblies
and Victaulic HP-70 couplings. Thermal
cycling was performed to determine if
elevated temperatures would impact emissions.
The test data clearly indicates that at
both 750 psi and 1,500 psi, and at both
ambient and elevated temperatures, Victaulic HP-70 couplings and gaskets exceeded the performance of flanged con-

rotary steerable tool, which the company
says combines a simplistic and robust
design with advances in real-time
telemetry and support for higher speeds
and temperatures.
Designed to complete the intermediate,
curve and lateral in one run, the self-contained system includes only 10 moving
parts to remove as many failure points as
possible, D-Tech describes. The fully rotating push-the-bit tool has been ruggedized
for high vibration and shock, tackles abra-

sive formations, and works in challenging
mud systems, the company reports.
" With more than 4.5 million feet
drilled with our original system, we are
excited to launch the Invictus next-generation tool to further improve performance, reliability and efficiency, " comments Kirk Card, D-Tech's president.
" Harsher drilling environments and the
need for higher performance and more
economical drilling led our engineering
team to redesign our already robust
tool, adding multiple upgraded technical
requirements and putting more information at our customers' fingertips. "
Because customers are pushing bit
speeds higher to maximize rates of penetration and push drilling efficiency, the
tool's speed was increased to 330 revolutions per minute, D-Tech relates. The
company says this improvement increases
the RST's tolerance for system-to-bit
speed variations caused by stick/slip
events, as well as torsional oscillation.

The company notes there is no pressure
or temperature loss with either connection
type, confirming that both can perform
adequately within tank battery installations.
However, the flanged connections showed
a higher risk of fugitive emissions.

CGG Acquiring Next Phase
Of Nebula Off Brazil Coast
PARIS-According to CGG, it was
scheduled to begin the second phase of
Nebula, a large, long-offset BroadSeis™
survey in the Campos and Santos Basins
offshore Brazil, in December.
According to the company, the survey's
first phase covered 17,700 square kilometers on the southeastern side of the
survey area and provided 3-D data where
none existed. Phase II covers 10,000
square kilometers on the northern side of
the survey area with underlying broadband
datasets that will provide input for dualazimuth imaging.
CGG says the dual azimuth data will
better illuminate presalt events and address
significant challenges posed by thick volcanic layers. CGG says its subsurface
imaging center in Rio de Janeiro will
employ state-of-the-art processing technology, including interbed multiple attenuation and proprietary time-lag FWI,
to dramatically improve the velocity
model and produce clearer, more focused
subsurface images of this prolific presalt area.
CGG indicates it expects fast track
results during the first quarter of 2021
and final products-including a TTI Kirchhoff PSDM, a TTI RTM 45Hz and a
LSRTM 45Hz-in the first quarter of 2022.
