must understand the topic from a policy
level too. " State lawmakers know that
carbon sequestration exists, but don't understand
its feasibility and the conditions
that make it possible, " he reports. " As an
industry, we need to be more fluent in
this topic so we can translate its potential,
and limitations, to our policymakers. "
Also at the forefront this year are diversity,
equity and inclusion, COGA observes,
noting that in 2021 it has formed
a new committee to explore the topic
and identify ways Colorado's oil and gas
industry can further grow as diverse and
inclusive employers.
" Every industry needed to take a closer
look at their efforts around diversity, equity
and inclusion this year, " says Kim Mendoza-Cooke,
who co-chairs the DEI Committee.
" The oil and natural gas industry
in Colorado is one of the largest economic
contributors in the state. We provide career
pathways across a variety of disciplines,
and have the ability to engage with the
community both as an employer and as
an invested partner. What an opportunity
we have to be a leader in furthering DEI
both within our companies, while also
supporting larger, community efforts. "
Jamie Jost, who co-chairs the DEI
committee with Mendoza-Cooke, notes
that the conference will address the
subject. " Members of this committee
knew the Energy Summit was a terrific
venue to spotlight our work so far this
year, and extend the conversation to
leaders not directly engaged with DEI
efforts on a daily basis, " she says.
" Creating a Culture of Diversity, Equity
and Inclusion: Strategies for Success "
will explore the developing practices in
establishing direction, assembling the
right team and looking for partners to
support DEI goals both inside and outside
of companies.
According to COGA, the day's closing
session will take on one of the biggest,
most high-profile topics impacting everything
from federal policy to local landuse
decisions: climate change.
" Certainly, there are many initiatives
within the oil and gas industry that are
aimed directly at addressing climate change, "
Haley affirms. " But we are not alone, there
are a tremendous number of industries engaged
in this effort, and we are all encountering
similar challenges and opportunities. "
" Combating Climate Change Together "
will feature a panel of industry partners,
representing transportation, home building,
and agriculture and a discussion of how
the broader business community can collaborate
on efforts to reduce emissions and
lead the way to a brighter, better future.
With the closing session ending the
conference on an optimistic and inspiring
note, attendees will cap off their Energy
Summit experience with the best view in
the Rocky Mountain region: a closing
networking reception on the museum's
rooftop terrace.

with my kids, " Reynolds recounted in
late June, " I saw a plaque on the wall
with a quote from Charles Darwin: 'It is
not the strongest of the species that survives,
nor the most intelligent. It is the
one most adaptable to change.'

adaptability-and the power to survive
and thrive when you can be nimble and
responsive to change, " she continues.
" It's exciting to see this opportunity again
in 2021, to use the Energy Summit to
showcase the issues and the experts within
our oil and gas industry who will lead us
into the future. "
