Schlumberger Unit Aims To Help Slash Emissions
HOUSTON-Schlumberger has launched
Schlumberger End-to-end Emissions Solutions
(SEES), which it introduces as a
business that offers comprehensive services
and technologies for measuring, monitoring,
reporting and ultimately eliminating methane
and routine flare emissions. The company
says these emissions account for more than
60% of the industry's direct (Scope 1 and
2) greenhouse gas emissions.
" We have created SEES specifically
to help our customers deal with one of
the most pressing issues of climate change:
the urgent need to cut methane emissions.
Due to its potency as a GHG and its
major share of the industry's overall operational
emissions, tackling methane
emissions will make a significant impact, "

methane emissions normally requires operators
to navigate a patchwork of disparate
emissions control offerings. Through
SEES, the company says it provides a
holistic approach built on three pillars:
· Planning, which includes screening
measurement and abatement solutions to
identify the most cost-effective technology
mix for any operator's specific assets;
· Measurement, which draws on thirdparty
and in-house solutions curated from
a rigorous evaluation of 97 methane measurement
technologies; and
· Acting to remediate emissions.
The services' robust data and digital
foundation will enable customers to have
a secure, reliable, single place for integrating
multisource emissions data with advice,
plans and insights, Schlumberger adds.

S. Steel's Gary Works
To Manufacture Pig Iron
PITTSBURGH-United States Steel
Corp. says it is insourcing pig iron capabilities
at Gary Works.
The $60 million investment will produce
as much as 500,000 tons of pig iron
annually and provide a critical raw material
input for its electric arc furnaces, U. S.
Steel describes. The company predicts
Gary Works' pig iron production will
provide almost half of Big River Steel's
other ore-based metallics needs and deliver
an internal rate of return exceeding 30%.
" U. S. Steel's low-cost iron ore is an
important strategic advantage for the
company, " assesses U. S. Steel President
and Chief Executive Officer David B.
Burritt. " Our ability to control this important
steelmaking input is a valuable
competitive differentiator for our growing
fleet of electric arc furnaces. An investment
in pig iron is an important first step to
translating our low-cost iron ore advantage
to our EAF footprint while driving efficiencies
at Gary Works. "
Construction will begin in the first
half of 2022, with pig iron production at
Gary Works starting in the first half of
2023, U. S. Steel projects.

Morriss L. Hurt to managing
partner and chief operating officer.
Hurt joined EnCap Flatrock Midstream
in 2008. Before that, he founded

companies. In this capacity, Hurt raised
growth capital for management teams
and provided merger and acquisition,
financial and strategic advisory services.
Earlier in his career, Hurt was a financial
