LODA REQUIREMENT TO LAST FOUR YEARS
FAA Administrator Steve Dickson says it will take about four years to rewrite regulations
governing flight instruction in aircraft other than those in the standard category and
until that's done instructors will need extra paperwork. Instructors will need a letter of
deviation authority (LODA) to teach people to fly experimentals. If they want to teach on
limited or primary category aircraft, they will need a written exemption. " I am not any
happier about this situation than you are, " he said.
ANYONE GIVING OR RECEIVING INSTRUCTION IN A LIMITED, PRIMARY, OR
EXPERIMENTAL CATEGORY AIRCRAFT IS AT RISK
The FAA issued a new directive effective July 12 that " provides notification on flight
training for compensation in certain aircraft, " specifying it applies to receiving and
providing instruction in limited, primary, and experimental category aircraft. Meanwhile,
in court proceedings, the FAA is prosecuting flight instructors who volunteered their time
instructing in limited category aircraft and didn't receive a penny for doing so, arguing the
volunteers had received compensation.

on a suborbital flight Tuesday (July 20) aboard New Shepard, a private rocket built by Blue
Origin and financed by billionaire Jeff Bezos, who was also on the flight. The trip, Funk
said, was " incredible. "

FAA ORDERS STABILIZER INSPECTIONS OF GRUMMAN SINGLES
The FAA has issued an airworthiness directive requiring horizontal stabilizer
inspections of Grumman American AA-1, AA-1A, AA-1B, AA-1C, and AA-5 single-engine
airplanes following a loss-of-elevator-control accident in January.
