yOU CAN FLy THERE I WAS... Feedback Matters! Get national attention when your students take the AOPA Flight Training Experience Survey. WHEN INSTRUCTIONAL FRUSTRATION BECAME INSPIRATION BY CHRIS MOSER I WAS TRAINED AS A CLASSROOM TEACHER WELL BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO REALIZE MY DREAM OF BECOMING A PILOT OR, A LITTLE LATER, A FULL-TIME CFI. A big part of that training was learning how to develop lesson plans to plan out my instruction in the classroom. At first, we had to write out every detail-down to the verbal transitions we would say and even timing to the minute how long we thought each part of the lesson would take. As I gained experience and an intuitive sense of how long things would take and what I needed to do to reach my students, my lesson plans became more like outlines for what I needed as reminders in the classroom. Not surprisingly, a similar evolving process seems to happen to many flight instructors. At first, they follow the training syllabus carefully. But as they build experience and gain insight into their students, they begin to customize lessons to their individual students. Is this a bad thing? Complacency or laziness? I don't think so. I think it's a great idea to deliver Every year, AOPA takes the pulse of the flight training industry. Our survey asks students of all levels to review their CFIs and flight schools. Those assessed as best get national attention and can see a real jump in business. More importantly, flight educators get honest feedback and the chance to improve instruction. But we need your help to make students aware of the survey. Help ensure the best flight training experience for everyone by encouraging your students to participate. Learn more at aopa.org/ftsurvey.
