LESSON PLAN STEP 1: SMALL STEPS LEAD TO BIG ACHIEVEMENTS Are you a student pilot or a seasoned veteran studying for an airline transport pilot rating? While your objectives may differ, the need for commitment doesn’t. Choosing when and where you want to go with your program is a critical first step. For example, an instrument rating this year would fit well with plans for a commercial next year. Promise yourself that you won’t forget about your plans until they are accomplished. Setting goals will provide a measurable point of reference to chart your progress. Once you recognize the progress you are making, future successes will come much more easily and provide motivation going forward. As you define your goals, make sure that you make them achievable, the kind that lead to successful outcomes. MARCH 2011 FLIGHT TRAINING / 37
