Innovative program promotes aviation for everyone

OPA's You Can Fly program is an umbrella program that works to make flying
more accessible and affordable. From scholarships to STEM programs, inspiration
to hands-on guidance, You Can Fly is working to help everyone have the opportunity
to learn to fly. It encourages best practices in flight training; supports flying clubs; gets
lapsed or " rusty " pilots back in the air; brings resources and expertise to pilot groups
across the country; and helps high school students learn more about careers in aviation.
You Can Fly is funded by the AOPA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AOPA.
" The You Can Fly initiative is about creating a pathway for people from the time
they get inspired to fly, and to create access to flying clubs where several people may
share one aircraft to keep costs down, " says AOPA President Mark Baker.
You Can Fly programs are so successful that more than 150 new flying clubs have been
created, more than 120 scholarships totaling more than $1 million have been awarded for
flight training, and more than 5,000 " rusty " pilots have returned to the sky. Each year, You
Can Fly surveys students across the country and awards recognition to the best performing
instructors and schools in the Flight Training Excellence Awards. The program has also
