" I was flying a Remos GX with Editor
at Large Dave Hirschman to Dulles
International Airport for an open
house for GA aircraft. We were
directed to land on a 10,500-footlong
runway. Hirschman told me to
be a good neighbor and land long
down the runway so that the traffic
behind me didn't get backed up. But
I plunked the little Remos down in
the first 500 feet and then had to
taxi for what felt like forever. "
" Trying to get my
65-horsepower Piper J-3 Cub
on the ground in Gettysburg,
Pennsylvania, during a gusting
crosswind that kept changing
direction took some creative
footwork and one go-around
when it suddenly became a
tailwind. We finally pulled off
a safe (although not pretty)
landing. New skills acquired! "
" After a scenic flight over the
Mission Mountains near Missoula
Montana Airport in a Piper
Cherokee, wind gusts picked
up and I had traffic coming
in behind me. Tower cleared
me to land, but I had to 'make
short final and no delay.' As I
forward slipped to land while
maintaining strong crosswind
control, I remembered thinking;
Good thing I trained for this-
now time to grease this landing,
which thankfully I did. "
