A year of losses for the airshow community Wing walkers and other airshow per formers are resigned to the fact that their brand of flying can be hazardous, but 2011 has been fraught with losses for this close-knit community. Wing walker Todd Green died August 21 after a fall from his Stearman during an airshow in Michigan. Green was attempting to transfer from the Stearman to a helicopter. Kyle and Amanda Franklin, a husband-and-wife wingwalking team, experienced an engine failure in their 1940 Waco at a show in March. Both were severely injured, and Amanda Franklin died May 27. The International Council of Air Shows created a fund to help with medical expenses.
