reporting staffing shortages, so check in with
each restaurant before flying there. Also, if you
are thinking you'd fly on turkey day, call ahead
because some of these moms could be closed
and cooking at home.
And, here's the catch of the day: We must
have missed someone's favorite mom-made
airport restaurant, so here it goes-email

On-airport museums
Whoops, we missed a few

WE ALWAYS WORRY when we create a listicle
like the one in the September 2022
issue ( " Briefing: On-Airport Museums " )
that accompanied Patrick Mathews' story
on the Palm Springs Air Museum. Don't
blame Mathews; it was yours truly who
compiled the list. While I knew it was not
comprehensive, I had no idea how many
museums I left out nor how many members
would express their dismay and offer
up their suggestions. In the end, the more
than 100 emails we received have created a
truly comprehensive list of museums that
we are posting online. Here is a sampling
of museums and member comments:
" New England Air Museum at
Hartford's Bradley International Airport.
One of the best! How could you miss it? "

" I would like to include an on-airport
museum at KDNA, Santa Teresa, New
Mexico. It's an impressive museum with
a good representation of warbirds. " -
Marcus Miner
" How could you have missed the
Delaware Aviation Museum?! You did a
story on the B-25 Panchito in December
2015. Maybe I have a soft spot for them
since I just finished my SIC type on
Saturday. 'Fly in for History' was a great
story though! " -Paul Sanchez
" I highly recommend the National
Museum of WWII Aviation at the northwest
corner of KCOS [in Colorado
Springs]. Very impressive, recently
expanded. " -Tony Paulsen

Nancy and Don McPherson
own the Minute Man Airfield in
Stow, Massachusetts, and the
restaurant on their field has
been her pride and joy for more
than 25 years. But the COVID-19
pandemic hit this small
destination town hard. Nancy's
Airfield Café lost most of its staff
and food prices continue to rise.
They've tried shrinking the menu
offerings, cutting hours, limiting
table service, and offering the
lowest gas prices in the area,
but it was a long tough summer.
Now they're looking to limp
through winter but come back
strong next spring. " The airport
restaurant is the heartbeat of the
airport. It is the intersection of
the community and the airport.
It is the life of the airport, and
we are trying to keep it going. "
If you'd like to sample Nancy's
farm-to-table offerings, she
will be open Thanksgiving and
Christmas for takeaway orders.
