In early May, the NTSB issued a series of recommendations to the FAA to restrict the use of
PEDs in commercial aircraft cockpits, including
new regulation to prohibit Part 135 and Part 91
Subpart K flight crewmembers from using PEDs
for nonoperational purposes while at their duty
station on the flight deck during aircraft operations (A-13-007.)
The Board also recommended that the FAA
require Part 121, 135 and 91 subpart K operators add training about the detrimental effects
that using PEDs may have on safety into their

initial and recurring pilot training programs
(A-13-008), and that those operators implement procedures into their operations manuals
barring such use of PEDs while in-flight, as well
as during safety-critical ground preparations
and flight planning (A-13-009).
