Your feedback is vital to our safety
programs, as it helps us hone in on
what's most important to you, the
operator. USAIG's website (USAIG.
com) offers a convenient new way
for us to collect your thoughts or
suggestions. A visit there will provide
a great look at all our services,
including the "Safety" tab that
outlines our safety programs. All of
the "Safety" pages-including the
one where you can go to download
all past issues of this newsletter-
contain an "Ask a Safety Expert"
feature you can use to communicate
directly with USAIG's Director of
Aviation Safety Programs. We look
forward to your comments on the
newsletter or our other safety
programs, and advancing Premium
on Safety in step with your needs and
suggestions. Fly smart and fly safe!

the additional concern of needing to prove
its reliability to its most important customer.
And it provokes more thought when the
errors that led to the accident were subtle.
The pilot whose Cherokee Six broke up in
flight (airsafetyinstitute.org/timelapse)
over central Texas was on an IFR flight plan
and keeping an eye on NEXRAD radar, but
apparently wasn't aware of the lag times built
into a system that assembles its images from
multiple scans, then uploads them to satellite
for broadcast to subscribers.
Full-length case studies can have tremendous
impact (no pun intended), but can also take
a lot of time both to prepare and to present.

NBAA Safety Committee:
Efforts focused
Along with top-notch aviation industry
professionals from around the nation, USAIG is
represented on the NBAA Safety Committee.
The committee's Top 10 Safety Focus areas
for 2014 are listed below. Working groups are
busy devising strategies and developing content
to boost the safety performance of business
aviation in these key areas. In addition to
guiding effort on a national scale, these topics
also make great focal points for local safety
programs. More information can be found at
nbaa.org/ops/safety/top-safety-focus-areas.
USAIG salutes the NBAA Safety Committee and
our policyholders with members who participate
directly. If you are interested in contributing
expertise to this important work, email us at
safety@usaig.com and we'll put you in touch
with committee leadership.

were all precipitated by attempts to practice
emergency turnbacks to the airport after engine

technique close to the ground doesn't leave
much margin for error if someone hauls back a
little too hard or fails to keep the ball centered.
Even if the name's a slight exaggeration, there's
a reason it's called "the impossible turn."
