We can’t do it alone, and we can’t do it without your help. If you do not believe these issues are important, just turn on the TV and listen to the news, read your local newspapers, or go on the Internet and read the Washington political commentary. APMAPAC Campaign 2011 may be ending December 31, but our need for political action is ongoing. The transition from Campaign 2011 to Campaign 2012 must be seamless. We must take advantage of their openness and support candidates who will actually make a difference. I am well aware of the economic issues we all face as practitioners. We are not alone. Our colleagues in allopathic and osteopathic medicine also are facing cuts to their income. We are collaborating to fight the SGR and repeal IPAB, and APMA will continue to fight for recognition of podiatric physicians under Title XIX. As the government focuses on ways to decrease health-care costs, we as practitioners will not be spared, and the consequences could be substantial. The time to step up and be heard is now more than ever. The rallies occurring across the United States regarding employment and personal economic stability have been mounting. Ordinary people are getting active, and we as a profession must do the same. Every practitioner must realize the importance of contributing to APMAPAC and how critical it is to mobilize now.
