10 Questions Featuring Crystal Holmes, DPM, Ann Arbor, MI In this feature, APMA News asks one member 10 questions and gets all the answers about his or her passions, ambitions, and priorities. Would you like to answer our questions? Contact Aimee Condayan at arcondayan@apma.org. 6. Who was the most memorable professor you’ve ever had, and why? Dr. Larry Harkless, who was my residency director and is still my mentor. He has taught me so much about podiatry. Every day, I think of things he would say to encourage me and push me to be a better person and physician. He is an incredible person and has contributed so much to the profession through teaching. 1. What do you do for fun during your time off? Spend time with my family. I have a 10-monthold daughter. She has changed my life for the better. Being with her and my husband means everything to me. 2. What is your favorite movie? I know women across the world will hate me, but I hate chick flicks. I do not have a favorite movie. When I watch a movie, I want to be entertained. I treat people with so much pain, hardship, and stress in their lives, and I want to let all of that go for a few hours. I would rather see “Transformers” than “The Notebook” any day. My husband always tells me how much he loves this about me. He always tells me I am a fun date. 7. What would your last meal be? A tender, juicy rib-eye steak and loaded baked potatoes. Yes, I am a meat and potatoes lover. Again, it’s probably why my husband thinks I am such a great date. What is the biggest change you’ve seen in podiatric medicine since you started practicing? The change is residency training. I think it will have a great impact on us achieving parity. I just hope young practitioners realize that surgery is an important aspect of their practice but not all they will do. You must be a good clinician as well. 8. 3. If you could meet any famous person, who would it be, and why? Oprah. I think she is intelligent and generous. I find her story and the work she does incredible. 9. What mistake have you made that taught you a great lesson? Never be afraid of the unknown, and do not wait to make what you want happen. Work hard every day toward your goal. Even if it does not work out just as you planned, it will work out and usually for the better. 4. 5. Finish this statement: Tomorrow, I absolutely refuse to … ... go to bed any later than I did last night. Why is podiatry the best career for you? I get to do what I love. I love to interact with people and do procedures that make them better. It is a win– win for me. 10. Where or to whom do you go for advice?
