Dr. Stickel organized a central office in Washington, DC, for the association (with four staff members, including Dr. Stickel), and he pioneered public communications and legislative advocacy. An avid proponent of proper recognition of podiatrists in the armed services, he garnered significant publicity for podiatry’s contributions to the military during World War II. During his years as executive secretary, Dr. Stickel also served as the editor of the Journal of the National Association of Chiropodists, the predecessor of the Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association. 48 APMA News January 2012
