Affiliates Corner AACPM Announces Selection of National Residency Facilitator The American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine (AACPM) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the selection of Edwin W. Wolf, DPM, MS, as its national residency facilitator. Involved in graduate podiatric medical education his entire professional career, Dr. Wolf provided leadership within AACPM’s Council of Teaching Hospitals; participates as a residency evaluator for CPME, and is a residency program director. Dr. Wolf said, “I am intimately familiar with the workings of residency programs from academic, administrative, and financial points of view. As the national residency facilitator, I will be afforded the opportunity to give back to the profession which has served me so well over the years.” On behalf of the Board of Directors, AACPM Chair Michael J. Trepal, DPM, said, “The selection of Dr. Wolf marks the beginning of the next phase in our efforts to solve the podiatric residency shortage while working toward our association’s goal of having sufficient entry-level training positions equal to 110 percent of the graduating class each year.” Acknowledging the role AACPM and APMA will play in funding this effort, Dr. Trepal said, “We appreciate the significant APMA support and call upon both the other organizations involved in AACPM’s ad hoc Committee on Balance as well as organizations within the podiatric community to contribute financially to the project. Ensuring that a residency position is available to every qualified podiatric medical graduate is the essential linchpin as we move forward with APMA’s Vision 2015.” Dr. Wolf can be reached at ewolf@aacpm.org. ASPS: Not Just for Podiatrists The American Society of Podiatric Surgeons (ASPS) has several membership categories, offering an opportunity for medical professionals with an active interest in foot and ankle surgery to join APMA’s surgical affiliate. While most podiatrists are familiar with the fellow and associate categories, one category often flies under the radar—the affiliate member category. The affiliate category provides an opportunity for licensed, APMA-member podiatrists who have not yet received board certification to join a surgical society. ASPS strives to include all podiatrists who have the desire to further their surgical knowledge and skill level. The affiliate category also enables licensed individuals from other medical professions, such as MDs or DOs, to join ASPS. The application process for affiliate membership is straightforward. The applicant must complete a hard-copy ASPS membership application. He or she must then submit it to ASPS along with a brief written statement describing how he or she is actively involved in podiatric surgery in his or her current practice, an up-to-date CV/résumé, and 10 operative reports from the past year related to foot and ankle surgery cases. The operative reports must be notarized by the hospital or surgery center where the procedures were performed. The ASPS Membership Committee reviews all affiliate membership applications and makes a recommendation to the ASPS Board of Directors for action. Affiliate members can publicize their membership with ASPS on their CVs and résumés only in the following ways: Credentials Certificates for 2012 House of Delegates Credentialing information for the 2012 House of Delegates (HOD) was recently mailed to component association presidents and executive directors. Please be sure to return your credentials certificates by early January. Certificates also are available on the APMA website at www.apma.org/2012hod/credentialscerti ficate. Again this year, delegates and alternates may choose between receiving HOD materials in the traditional binder or on a flash drive. If you select the flash drive option, you will receive your flash drive as part of the second mailing of HOD materials, and you will not receive a report book. The second mailing will be sent in early March. All information provided after the second mailing will be distributed in hard copy and made available online.
