In Short Have You Seen APMA’s New Videos? APMA’s YouTube channel now features the latest student recruitment videos about a day in the life of today’s and tomorrow’s podiatrists. Over the holidays, the videos were e-mailed to more than 60,000 students who recently took the MCAT and are considering a career in medicine. The videos also are available to you. They are great to use as additional visual content on your practice website or when you give a presentation about a career in podiatric medicine. Peripheral arterial disease? Arthritis? Obesity? Osteoporosis? Do you prevent falls? Prevent amputations? Help patients walk and stay active? Encourage smoking cessation? Improve the quality of life in our aging population? Treat and prevent injuries? If you answered yes to any of those questions, you should be a member of the American Public Health Association (APHA). The mission of the Podiatric Health Section of the APHA is to move the public health agenda forward through advocacy, education, and promotion of public health principles in order to establish and maintain a healthy society that views health as a personal responsibility and public trust. Further, it seeks to promote the essential role the profession of podiatric medicine plays in the public health-care system. The APHA Podiatric Health Section is working toward the creation of Podiatric Health Student Chapters at each of the nine podiatric medical colleges. Interested students who have demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and have committed to a path of academic excellence can apply for a sponsored APHA student membership. These select students will have the opportunity to work alongside the APHA leadership in making these student chapters a reality. APHA is a very large forum with more than 55,000 members (www.apha.org). Student chapters will enhance students’ leadership skills and provide additional exposure to public health and research. Membership in a student chapter is a great addition to any CV.
