Affiliates Corner Introducing ACFAOM’s New President Kathleen Satterfield, DPM, became president of the American College of Foot & Ankle Orthopedics & Medicine (ACFAOM) effective January 1. She also serves as associate professor and director of preclinical curriculum at the College of Podiatric Medicine at Western University of Health Sciences (CPM). She has the option to serve a one- or twoyear term. Dr. Satterfield reKathleen Satterfield, DPM places Kirk Geter, DPM. “My goal for my year or two as president is to increase our membership through examination of what it really means to be a podiatric physician, and also to continue the work of our previous presidents,” she said. “We started a clinical conference that’s gaining popularity. We see other conferences now trying to emulate us.” CPM Professor Robert Christman, DPM, EdM, also serves on the ACFAOM board. CPM Executive Associate Dean Lester Jones, DPM, MSEd, is a past president of ACFAOM and current president of the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine (ABPOPPM). Having these national leaders on campus gives CPM a voice in the future direction of podiatric medicine. Students also benefit from CPM faculty holding these leadership positions. “We have an opportunity to introduce into our curriculum things we are hearing about on the national level because we’re dealing on a monthly basis with people on national boards,” Dr. Satterfield said. “We’re writing board questions, reviewing grants, and the connections that we make for our students are huge for residency programs.” ACFAOM is a professional society of podiatric physicians and surgeons dedicated to excellence in orthopedics and medicine of the lower extremities as the cornerstone of contemporary podiatric practice. n Dr. Napolitano graduated from the Dr. William Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in 1989 and completed her residency training at the Hines VA Hospital, Hines, IL. She is a diplomate of ABPOPPM and the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. Dr. Napolitano has held a faculty appointment at Loyola University Medical Center since 1996, and she is an associate professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery & Rehabilitation. She holds staff appointments at the Foster G. McGaw Hospital (Maywood, IL) and the Hines VA Hospital. Dr. Napolitano has held many committee appointments with CPME, ABPOPPM, and the VA, and is chair of the ACFAOM BioMedix Advisory Board. Dr. Spencer graduated from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine (OCPM) in 1987, and completed a postgraduate fellowship in podiatric orthopedics and biomechanics at OCPM. He is board certified by ABPOPPM. Dr. Spencer has Scott Spencer, DPM Coleen Napolitano, DPM Drs. Napolitano and Spencer Join ACFAOM Board At the October 2011 ACFAOM Membership Meeting, held during the Annual Clinical Conference, then-President Kirk Geter, DPM, announced election results for two board positions. Coleen Napolitano, DPM, and Scott Spencer, DPM, will join the board with terms beginning January 1, 2012. Mail ballots were cast by 211 fellows. 54 APMA News February 2012 held a faculty appointment at OCPM since 1993 and is an associate professor of orthopedics/biomechanics. He is a staff podiatrist at the A.M. McGregor Home (East Cleveland, OH) and maintains a private practice in Beachwood, OH. Dr. Spencer has served in a number of capacities at OCPM, including president of the Faculty Senate, and has a number of publications, including a chapter on pathomechanics in the Textbook on Podiatric Medicine edited by Vincent Hetherington, DPM (in press). He has chaired the ACFAOM Membership Committee since 2007. The two seats on the 10-person board of directors were open due to the completion of the terms of Secretary Robert Marcus, DPM, (2000–2011) and Immediate Past President Beth Jarrett, DPM (2002–2011). During the ACFAOM Board of Directors meeting, also held in October 2011, Stephen Albert, DPM, was elected president-elect; Daniel Evans, DPM, was elected treasurer; and Jason Harrill, DPM, was elected secretary, effective January 1, 2012. n
