No other meeting carries the academic authority of The National. Additionally, the APMA exhibit hall is an impressive space. Attendees will appreciate the continued improvements of the meeting, including a daily meeting newspaper, a meeting app for your smartphone with session and exhibitor information, and the APMA booth in the exhibit hall to address your needs. The educational program will feature the latest on evidence-based medicine while also taking on some controversial subjects with presentations from different treatment perspectives. For the first time we have added a radiology track, and attendees and their assistants will have the opportunity to take a separate course in Foot and Ankle Coding Certification. We will also have a dedicated area for our expanding poster abstract session. This portion of the meeting has grown significantly over the past five years. PMA’s 2013 Annual Scientific Meeting (The National) will take place July 21–25 in fabulous Las Vegas! How will APMA top the diversity of content, cutting-edge resources, and blockbuster entertainment of our 100th Anniversary gala last year? For answers, APMA News turned to Dennis Frisch, DPM, chair, APMA Annual Meeting Committee; James R. Christina, DPM, APMA director of Scientific Affairs; and Glenn Gastwirth, DPM, APMA executive director, and compiled their responses below. How will APMA build on the success of the 2012 meeting to make the 2013 meeting in Las Vegas even better? Innovative scientific programs we have introduced will be expanded, including the evidence-based medicine track, continued robust oral and poster abstract competitions, and a new breakfast program that offers continuing education contact hours (CECH) of importance to all members. The evidence-based medicine track was very well received in 2012, with a large number of speaker submissions. Attendees have requested more of these short, focused lectures. Can you explain how the controversial topic debates will be handled? We plan to take some specific foot and ankle conditions and look at different treatment options such as surgery versus antibiotics to treat osteomyelitis, fusion versus implant to treat arthritis of the first metatarsophalangeal joint, and barefoot versus shod running. These topics should make for a lively exchange, and we look for speakers to back up their positions with research and evidence. Las Vegas at Night: Jupiterimages/Comstock/Thinkstock. Explain the differences in this year’s schedule. Because Las Vegas is reluctant to give room blocks for the weekend, the meeting will run from Sunday through Thursday morning. Sunday will feature pre-conference workshops, and educational lecture programming will begin on Sunday afternoon. This schedule allows us to offer 30.5 CECH and additional hours for pre-conference workshops on Sunday morning. Also, we plan to feature time on Tuesday for attendees to have more opportunity to explore the exhibit hall and meet with vendors without missing educational programming. What will be back by popular demand? The very popular breakfast symposia covering the latest advances in foot and ankle care will be back, as well as plenary lectures given by leading medical experts on a variety of topics. Multiple daily track options will give attendees many choices that fit their specific educational needs. An exceptional assistants’ program will be available as well. We will also once again have the Team APMA 5K Run/Walk early one morning at a fantastic location with proceeds benefiting the APMA Educational Foundation. The National is a community-driven event, and we are proud of our satisfied customers. What changes will past attendees notice in Las Vegas?
