Emerging Issue:
An APMA Name Change
During the meeting, an emerging issues forum explored topics of interest to the house. Immediate-Past President R. Daniel
Davis, DPM, discussed with the delegates a concern he has
heard from some young physicians that "podiatrist" is no longer
the primary term they use to identify themselves-instead, they
call themselves foot and ankle surgeons or foot and ankle specialists. Dr. Davis asked the delegates for their feedback about
this concern, specifically as it relates to APMA's name and brand.
Based on the feedback APMA received from the delegates,
the organization has engaged in a brand audit. We are collecting quantitative and qualitative data about perceptions of the
Michel Makaroun, MD, vice president of the Society for Vascular
Surgery, underscored the importance of the relationship between
APMA and SVS for patient care.

Association, discussed the similarities between APMA and CPMA.
