Other Reimbursement Efforts in 2017 for Podiatrists
One of the biggest reimbursement efforts APMA focused
on in 2017 was MIPS and MACRA implementation. We continue to produce our educational webinar series, "MACRA
Made Easy," which has been viewed by more than 3,500 members. APMA has also worked hard to ensure CMS adopted a
podiatric quality measure subset, fi nalized in time for this
year's (2018) MIPS performance period.
APMA also submitted more than 15 comment letters addressing issues affecting podiatrists' reimbursement to various governmental agencies or contractors, including CMS,
HHS, and various MACs. Issues addressed included:
various aspects of the Medicare Quality Payment Program, including the finalized rule for the second year of
MIPS (find out more about the 2018 MIPS performance

* problematic wound care local coverage determination

(LCD) policies with Novitas and First Coast Service
Operations;
CY2018 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule; and
various CMS agency improvement proposals, including
CMS' proposed 2018-22 draft strategic plan and a new
direction for CMS' Center for Medicare and Medicaid
Innovation (CMMI).

Additionally, APMA is working with AAOS, the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Medical Association, and other subspecialties in addressing policies put
in place by Anthem and other private payers that unilaterally further reduce reimbursement for minor surgical procedures billed with a same-day Evaluation and Management
(E/M) code.
