President's Message

Our MISSION for Members
As most of you know by now, APMA's VA Provider Equity Act was signed
into law in June as part of the VA MISSION Act. This historic legislative win is
not just a victory for America's veterans or for podiatrists who work in the Veterans Health Administration. It's a victory for each and every APMA member.
APMA's success in moving the VA Provider Equity Act through Congress
and to the president's desk depended on members' involvement: Our APMA
member, Rep. Brad Wenstrup, DPM (R-OH), introduced the law in the House
of Representatives and worked tirelessly with our staff and his colleagues in
Congress to shepherd it to passage. Our APMA members stormed Capitol Hill
in March during our annual Legislative Conference to urge their legislators to
cosponsor the bill. Our APMA members made phone calls, sent emails, and

We proved, my friends, that we are stronger
together and that membership matters.
used the eAdvocacy site to promote the legislation. Our APMA members contributed to APMAPAC to support candidates for office who support podiatrists.
(Read more about the history of the VA Provider Equity Act and APMA's path
to success on page 10.)
We proved, my friends, that we are stronger together and that membership
matters. And we will all reap the benefits as we build on the momentum of the
victory within the VA and propel our Helping Ensure Life- and Limb Saving
Access to Podiatric Physicians (HELLPP) Act and other legislative priorities
forward. Once again, we will call upon our members to take action. I encourage you to visit our redesigned eAdvocacy site to send messages to your legislators. Celebrate the passage of the VA Provider Equity Act with a meaningful
donation to APMAPAC (www.apma.org/donate). And make it a priority to
meet with your legislators in their district offices, at fundraisers, or by participating in the Legislative Conference.
In the coming months, you will read about many of the exciting ways APMA
is working for its members. Check out the outstanding results of our spring foot
health public education campaign in this issue on page 16. And stay tuned for
our next edition to hear about the incredible 2018 Annual Scientific Meeting
(The National) I just attended in Washington, DC. The September/October issue also will include more news about the APMA MIPS app, a brand new benefit of your APMA membership designed to help your practice thrive under the
Merit-based Incentive Payment System. The member-exclusive free app will
also allow every member to attest to MIPS measures using the APMA Registry,
regardless of whether your EHR is integrated with the registry.
APMA will continue working-and winning-for you. Thank you for your
membership and for making a difference for your profession. Let's continue to
move forward together!
