2018 GEF Annual Meeting and 29th Annual
Kaplan-Clarke-Foster Golf Tournament

early 30 years ago, several podiatrists got together
for a weekend of golf with the aim of raising muchneeded funds for national podiatric political action.
Since that time, the core group of podiatric physicians and surgeons, Gary Kaplan, DPM; Gene Spector, DPM; Billy Dabdoub,
DPM; and the late Ollie Foster, DPM, have raised more than
$800,000 in support of political action through the KaplanClarke-Foster (KCF) Golf Tournament.
The event was named in honor of the first two chairs of
APMA's political action committee, Earl Kaplan, DPM, and
Teddy Clarke, DPM, and was amended in 2015 to honor the
legacy of the third APMAPAC chair, Oliver (Ollie) Foster, DPM.
This highly successful fundraising event continues a tradition
of bringing together podiatrists, corporate sponsors, friends,
colleagues, and family in support of the podiatric profession.
Though the event has undergone some changes through
the years, the primary foci of raising funds for political action
and engaging in camaraderie have remained the same. These
reasons are why KCF attendees return year after year, and
why corporate sponsors continue to support the event. The
2018 event, which incorporated an educational component
through the Government Education Fund (GEF) Annual Meeting, raised nearly $50,000, bringing the total raised over the
years to $815,361 for podiatry political action.
APMA uses funds raised through the KCF to sponsor the
annual Podiatric Medical Legislative Conference, held in Washington, DC (the 2019 conference was canceled due to a scheduling conflict with Congress). The funds provide sponsorship
for members and students to travel to DC to represent their
states and districts as they engage in direct lobbying with
members of Congress and their staff. Funds raisedthrough
the KCF also provide sponsorship for APMA's eAdvocacy website (www.apma.org/eAdvocacy), the portal through which
members, staff, friends, and family can connect directly with
state and federal elected officials to lobby on behalf of the
profession's goals.

The 2018 KCF and GEF Annual Meeting, held last October
at the Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, NC, provided attendees
the opportunity to earn eight CECH. The event featured lectures on sports medicine, wound care, and opioids. This meeting was the sixth KCF event held at Pinehurst.
After several days of early morning golf rounds and evening
seminars, participants were treated to a deluxe awards banquet.
