INTRODUCING THE CANDIDATES
continued from page 17

Preventive Podiatric Medicine Committee, Committee to End
Health-Care Disparities, Membership Committee, National
Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners, and the American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine. I am presently the
chair of the Anthem Workgroup, whose purpose is to review
Anthem's " Appropriate Use Criteria: Small Joint Surgery
Guidelines " and the effect it would have on our members. I
have found my past eight years on the board to be fruitful and
hopefully successful in making a difference together with my
fellow board members.
Looking toward the future, there are still many goals I feel
must be accomplished for our members. Some of these include:
1. fair and equitable compensation;
2. access to all health-care delivery systems;
3. the patient's right to foot and ankle care provided by a podiatrist;
4. passage of the Helping Ensure Life and Limb-Saving Access
to Podiatric Physicians (HELLPP) Act;
5. provider non-discrimination;
6. antitrust reform for physicians;
7. medical malpractice reform;
8. RAC reform; and
9. availability of a residency position for every qualified podiatric medical graduate.
I am looking forward to running again this year for the board
and to continuing all of my efforts to help improve every aspect
of the podiatric profession for my colleagues.

Leadership embodies many qualities
that guide a membership toward the
evolution of collective goals. This last
very challenging year with the
COVID-19 virus restrictions brought
out a willingness by our APMA board
not only to cope, but to nimbly adapt
and innovate. I am very proud of the work we have done and
continue to do daily in this uncertain time.
I have worked for the past two years in varying capacities
within the board, but also as part of the Finance Committee
given the changes to APMA Bylaws. The capable guidance of
Chief Business Officer Denis Russell, CPA, CAE, and the Finance Committee has steered APMA through very uncertain
times. Your association is fiscally prepared, and we will continue to rely upon the competence of these leaders as we address ongoing COVID-19 concerns. This steady leadership
and board involvement have maintained control, viability,
and adaptability to unforeseen needs. We look forward to future stronger years and continued growth both for the profession and our financial platform.
The transparency, scrutiny, and review of financial assets,
liabilities, and budgetary considerations have delivered to
18 APMA News January/February 2021

APMA a strong fiduciary platform that safeguards the interests of our membership.
As your treasurer, I look forward to a continued commitment to outstanding stewardship of dues dollars. I am committed to nimbly responding to needs as they surface and
will offer deliberative and responsible engagement in our
discussions and decisions. We have engaged in the development of non-dues income and will continue to build on
these efforts. I am committed to using innovative as well as
time-tested methods to improve our financial position and
grow our organization.
I know that when we work together, we work best: I look
forward to working with you to advance our profession and
the professional lives of our members.
I am honored to declare my candidacy for election as treasurer, and I pledge to continue to " Advocate Podiatric Medicine Always " (APMA) with you as I have been privileged to do
these nine years. Thank you for your support!

It is with great excitement that I announce my candidacy for Speaker of the
APMA House of Delegates. I believe that
I bring a unique and diversified personal
history to this position. It has been an
honor and a privilege to have served my
profession over many years.
I have served in leadership positions on a state and local
level including as president of the Michigan Podiatric Medical
Association (MPMA). Appointed by the governor, I have been
a member of the Michigan Board of Podiatric Medicine and
Surgery, part of the Department of Licensing and Regulatory
Affairs, including six years as chair.
As president of the MPMA, I was able to attend my first
HOD meeting in 2000. I have served as APMAPAC coordinator for Michigan since 2004. I have served as an advisor to the
APMA Bylaws, Procedures, and Rules committee from 2017-
2019, becoming a member in 2020. I have also served on the
APMA Blue Ribbon Panel to review and study the history and
current circumstances of certifying boards. I have truly enjoyed working with members of our association, Board of
Trustees, and staff for the common good.
The speaker of the APMA House of Delegates has the
duty to provide the house with a smooth and orderly annual meeting. It is my intention to serve as a non-biased
overseer of the HOD. I will provide appropriate guidance
to the delegates to help them accomplish their goals, allowing " the rule of the majority with respect for the minority. " My yearly interest will be to allow for an open and
spirited discussion regarding the issues of the day. I am
prepared to commit and devote the necessary amount of
time to the job of speaker. I am committed to the future of
APMA and its HOD. Q
