BRITISH COLUMBIA-Vancouver. Associate

Podiatric medicine resides in a unique niche
in BC. While most medical care is covered by
the provincial health plan, podiatrists bill privately,
and insurance companies do not set our
fees. There is no managed care; no third party
sets our fees. With few exceptions, we get paid
on the day of service. This means you can do
well here financially with less bureaucracy and
paperwork. You'd be working in a well-rounded
office practice-diabetic foot care, general
orthopedic issues, biomechanics, routine care,
sports, and surgery. Because hospital care is insured
by the government health-care program,
it is both challenging and financially disadvantageous
to work in a hospital setting. So, there
is less trauma or advanced rearfoot surgery
than you might find in the US. Most surgeries
would be performed in a surgical center.
We can provide a full-time or part-time work
week, depending upon your interests. There
are no nursing care facilities and no house
call requirements. It is not terribly difficult to
get licensed here, but non-Canadians must go
through an immigration process to become authorized
to work here. About half of podiatric
surgeons practicing here are US citizens. BC is
a fantastic place to live with a great work-life
balance. Vancouver is probably the most beautiful
city in North America and is consistently
rated among the top five cities in the world
for quality of life. With a climate similar to
Seattle, Vancouver lies on the Pacific Ocean,

doorstep. There are three ski hills serviced by
the city bus system, and Whistler is less than
