Thoughts from the CEO
Take Care in Diffi cult Times
Being a health-care worker has never been an easy proposition. For us as podiatrists, it meant undergraduate education, podiatric
medical school, and for most, some sort of postgraduate training, which now is a three-year hospital-based program.
There are many challenges in getting through the educational portion of our careers, but after that the challenges remain in
providing the best possible care for our patients, dealing with the challenges of either running a business or being an employee,
and balancing our work and family lives. Add to this all the requirements and regulations that insurance companies impose,
which are often a roadblock to providing our patients with the care they need and deserve. It is no wonder that physician
well-being has become a major issue.
Each of us needs to make sure that in addition to taking care of our patients and our families, we are taking care of ourselves.
During this pandemic, there are added pressures of keeping ourselves and our families safe and healthy. There are many resources
available at www.apma.org/wellbeing to help if you are struggling with physician burnout or other challenges. Often the hardest
part is recognizing the issue and seeking help. So, take some time today and do a wellness assessment of yourself. If you identify a
problem, fi nd the resources on APMA's well-being page and take action to reach out and get help. It will be the best thing for you,
your family, and your patients.
