As we begin 2022, APMAPAC is thankful for
those who recognize the crucial role legislative
and political advocacy play in the daily lives of
our practices. As of the writing of this column in
early December, Medicare fees are still slated to
be cut by nearly 10 percent if Congress fails to act
before the end of the year. I hope you heeded the
call-to-action notices from APMA and asked your
member of Congress to act before it's too late.
This year, your APMAPAC Board of Directors is eager
to focus on our singular cause, which is to raise
funds for those running for Congress in the 2022
midterm elections who support APMA's legislative priorities.
We do not make policy for APMA; it is our job
to make sure the right people are in the right place at
the right time to protect and defend the profession.
With these elections happening later this year, we
need every penny possible to make sure our friends
in Congress stay in Congress! It's never too late to

This election year is very important
to you, to our profession, and to our
future. APMAPAC-it's your future!
Your APMAPAC board met virtually in
November 2021. During this meeting, the board
reviewed its budget and the list of 2022 meetings we
hope to attend in person (although COVID-19 may
change our plans); discussed PAC promotion ideas
to increase member participation and the dollars
we raise; performed our annual PAC Coordinator
Network evaluation; made fundraiser plans for Rep.
Brad Wenstrup, DPM (R-OH); reviewed the objectives
for the student mentor program; debated
resuming on-site college visits and the future of the
annual Kaplan-Clarke-Foster fundraising event; and
formed three new committees: Communications,
Fundraising, and Strategic Planning. (If you have an

At the meeting, we re-elected William Dabdoub,
DPM (LA); Debra Gibson, DPM (AL); and Indiana
Podiatric Medical Association Executive Director Matt

Solak. We also elected two new board members:
Odin de los Reyes, DPM (CT), and Derek Pantiel,
DPM (NC). These two new board members both
have experience as APMAPAC coordinators and
bring vitality, enthusiasm, passion, and new ideas.
Earlier in 2021, the APMAPAC board updated its
bylaws to designate a liaison position representing
the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons
(ACFAS) Board of Directors. This position brings
incredible value to our board and opportunities for
both of our organizations to raise the bar on the
effectiveness of legislative and political advocacy. We
are excited to welcome Michael Cornelison, DPM
(CA), already a valued APMAPAC Board member
and the ACFAS president-elect, as the ACFAS liaison
to the APMAPAC Board. Last but not least, after
16 years of service as a member of the APMAPAC
Board, and a lifetime of service to the profession, our
Immediate-Past Chair Barney A. Greenberg, DPM, retired
and was elected as the newest APMAPAC Chair
Emeritus (see APMAPAC Spotlight on page 50).
Congratulations to the newest members of our
board, and thank you, Dr. Greenberg, for your
years of dedication and commitment to political
action. Please thank them for their service to this
great profession by making a PAC contribution
today. It is my distinct honor to work beside these
incredibly talented and successful people.
