In most issues, you find a message from the APMA president
in this space. In this issue, your update from newly installed
President Laura J. Pickard, DPM, comes in the form of the
transcript of her inaugural address to the House of Delegates,
starting on page 10.
It's serendipitous that we celebrate the installation of our
second female president in the March/April issue of APMA News.
March is also Women's History Month, and we're taking a look
back at the history of women at the association (page 16). Since
the formation of the National Association of Chiropodists 110
years ago, women have played an active role, and you'll see from
our timeline that the representation of female students, physicians,
and leaders has never been greater than it is today.
Representation matters, for women and for other traditionally
under-represented communities. Our Diversity, Equity, and
Inclusion (DEI) Task Force has completed its work, and Past
President Seth Rubenstein, DPM, who launched the task force in
2020, shares a report on its activities on page 18. Dr. Rubenstein
also provides an update on the future of DEI at APMA and how
we will continue this critically important work for both our members
and our patients.
Also in this issue, you'll find an update from the 2022 House
of Delegates and its important work on physician parity (page
20). Watch our next edition for a full report from the 2022
meeting. Read about APMA's latest recommendations for the
ABIM Foundation's Choosing Wisely campaign to help limit use
of unnecessary treatments and procedures (page 19), and find
an exclusive invitation to APMA members to participate in the
American Limb Preservation Society (page 21).
