executive director to be the face of the profession.
They'll need to get out there and pound the
pavement for the profession and show the value
of APMA.
We talk a lot about how we offer value
to our members. How has APMA created
value for you in your career?
When people ask me why people should belong
to APMA, I ask them how their scope of practice is
versus how it was 15 years ago. I ask them about
billing and coding. I ask about MIPS. Who changed
those things for us? I ask who goes to Washington,
DC, and advocates for them. I show the value of
belonging. I believe every podiatrist needs APMA
and should be a member, and the more who see
that value, the larger our numbers will be, and the
more we can accomplish.
What would you ask of your fellow
members as you assume the
presidency?
I'd ask that they communicate and work with me. I
want to know your problems and your issues. Tell
me now so that I can do something-not a year later
at HOD. Talk to your liaisons, talk to your component.
My biggest pitch is going to be, if you have
a problem, communicate it. Together, we can.
Tell us about your current
professional life.
I am in practice with my son Joseph, as well as my
chief resident from five years ago. My wife Karen is
my office manager.
I'm a residency director. I do rounds at 7:30 a.m.
with my residents and teach them.
I obviously have many obligations with APMA. I
have a very active professional life, and I never regret
a minute of it. I take a little more time for myself
now, but I am still involved in practice, and as
long as I can, I'll be involved in residency training.
I still attend all the local Kings Division meetings
to stay abreast of current issues affecting New
York state.
What are your hobbies and passions
outside podiatry?
I'm a boater, a fisherman, and a hunter. Karen
is a big horseback rider and has gotten me into
it. When we first got married, I was a big golfer.
I took my wife to the golf course, and by the
fourth hole she was so bored, she said, " Find
another passion! " Now we enjoy fishing and
boating together.
You are obviously very close to your
family. Tell us more about them.
I have been married to my wife Karen for 49 years.
I have two sons, Anthony and Joseph. They are
both married; I have two beautiful daughters-inlaw.
I have two grandsons and a granddaughter,
and we now have two additional granddaughters
as my daughter-in-law's nieces officially joined the
family. We are Nana and Papa to all five, and we
love it. The whole family lives on Long Island about
20 minutes apart.
I want to thank my family for their support, especially
my wife Karen who has been with me since
podiatry school. She is the wind beneath my wings,
and without her, I would not be where I am today.

run for the Board of Trustees. I look forward to working
