Patrick DeHeer, DPM
Candidate for Treasurer
I am excited to announce my
candidacy for the position of treasurer
of the American Podiatric
Medical Association. My ongoing
tenure on the Board of Trustees
has been a source of continuous challenge and
inspiration, pushing me to contribute meaningfully
to the profession. My extensive nine-year
journey has equipped me with the necessary
experience and insights to step into the role of
treasurer effectively.
My qualifications encompass my role as a
residency director at Ascension St. Vincent
Indianapolis, a podiatric physician within a leading
national group pioneering value-based health
care, and a peer-reviewed published author.
As a blogger for Podiatry Today, a national and
international speaker, and a committed humanitarian
engaged in extensive global and regional
volunteerism, I am uniquely positioned to bring
valuable insights to the board.
David Alper, DPM
Candidate for Re-election
to the Board of Trustees
Reflecting on six years of service
to one's profession calls to mind
where you have been, what you
have accomplished, how those
achievements have had an impact for your constituents,
and, ultimately, what lies ahead.
Serving as a member of your APMA Board of
Trustees has afforded me these opportunities-and
so much more. Because of my committee assignments
over the years-Coding, Communications,
Physician Parity, and Legislative Advocacy, just to
name a few-I was able to help support and guide
our association in order to better our practice
lives, as well as enhance the level of care for our
patients. Of particular satisfaction and excitement
for me has been serving as chair of the newly
formed Student Engagement Committee, working
with some of our best and brightest to ensure that
our future knows that they are a part of APMA, and
that APMA is there for them now and throughout
the course of their practice lives. The committee is
bringing trustees back into our schools to deliver
presentations and interact with the student body,
resulting in deeper engagement on both sides and
a sense that our profession's future is bright and in
good hands.
I bring a wealth of knowledge, relationships, and
leadership skills cultivated over my terms as a trustee,
preparing me for the next step in my journey
to the APMA executive board. Collaborating with
diverse APMA presidents, dedicated trustees, and
the hardworking APMA staff has strengthened my
commitment to serving my podiatric colleagues and
advancing our profession. My goal is to leave the
profession in a better state than when I entered, and
I am dedicated to realizing this commitment.
The future of podiatry is promising, especially
when we unite our efforts, consistently prioritizing
the profession. Recognizing that the diversity
within the podiatric community is our strength, I
am committed to fostering an environment that
embraces and encourages our unique differences.
This focus will be central to my continued contributions
during my remaining time on the board.
I am grateful for your consideration and trust in my
ability to contribute meaningfully to APMA as treasurer.
Be well, stay diligent, and let us work together to
ensure a vibrant future for our profession.
What has been, and continues to be, a favorite
part of my position is acting as a board liaison to
various component associations. Each year, I have
had the pleasure of interacting at board meetings,
communicating through emails and phone
conversations and attending regional meetings-all
allowing me to speak with you and your state
leadership. Bringing the good word and wins from
APMA, and bringing your state society's concerns,
issues, activities, and successes back to APMA, is
the job. Personal interactions and conversations
with your members and leaders are the most
productive, and the most pleasant, benefits. I have
learned so much from you all, and I hope I have
returned the favor.
When I began my run for the Board of
Trustees, I stated that one of my main goals
was to ensure that podiatry has a seat at the
table when government and medical policies
are being discussed and enacted. I continue
to maintain that podiatrists need to be seen as
vital to the care of all aspects of the population-and
that only happens when we are in the
room. I have served with the American Diabetes
Association for more than 30 years at various regional
and national levels. For the past few years,
I have also been honored to have been asked
to serve on the boards for several organizations
