APMA News - January/February 2024 - 18

Lauren Wurster, DPM
Candidate for Election as
Young Physician Member
of the Board of Trustees
As a candidate for the young physician
member of the APMA Board
of Trustees, my goal is for the
Board of Trustees and young physician membership
to continue to make strides together for the
sustained advancement and success of our profession.
For the past two and a half years, I have had
the privilege of serving as a member of the Young
Physician Leadership Panel (YPLP). It has allowed
me the opportunity to witness the evolution of the
profession and APMA, as well as how young physicians
can help propel the profession even further.
This was especially evident at the YPLP/Emerging
Leaders Program presentation to the board at The
National this July. This presentation demonstrated
the passion and ingenuity that young physicians
have for APMA and the podiatric profession. I feel
David Yeager, DPM
Candidate for Election
to the Board of Trustees
Experience. It is a word that is sometimes
overused by people who truly
do not understand its meaning.
My experience has varied from a
local level to a national level and everywhere in between.
On a local level, I am my hospital's chief of staff
and chief of surgery, both positions I am very proud
of and fulfill with fervor. On a state level in Illinois, I am
a past president and have been a delegate for more
than 15 years. On a national level, I have served your
APMA in many capacities, from chair of the former
Young Members Committee to the Annual Meeting
Committee and several others. I have been devoted
to our association and our profession. I truly love our
profession, and I am proud of our accomplishments.
Podiatry is in a crisis right now. From a student
applicant deficit to scope-of-practice issues and
our national board discussions, now, more than
ever, we need to crystalize as a profession and
work cohesively toward a common goal. As a trustee,
I would work diligently to achieve our goals.
Too many times, candidates promise the world and
deliver nothing.
I possess the unique characteristic of diligence.
When I was chair of the American
that through my time as a member of the YPLP
and experience serving on the Communications,
Legislative, and Podiatric Population Health
Committees, I have gained a greater understanding
of APMA and how the organization works tirelessly
for its members. Additionally, as a result of
my involvement in APMA committees and other
professional organizations, I look forward to serving
in this role to support young physicians throughout
the country and ensure that their voice and ideas for
the betterment of the podiatric profession are heard
and acted on.
Thank you for your consideration as a candidate
for the young physician member of the APMA Board
of Trustees. I would be honored and excited for the
opportunity to serve and advocate for all members
of APMA, and to continue to build on the strong
foundation that the BOT, APMA staff, and the YPLP
have developed for young podiatric physicians and
the future of the profession.
Society of Podiatric Surgeons, we were told by
many that it was an association that would fail.
Under my guidance, it went from 300 members
to more than 1,000 in one year. " No " is not an
acceptable response in my opinion. All of us
have been told " no " during our careers, but we
have persevered to achieve our goals, no matter
the time commitment or the sacrifices that we
have had to endure.
Being a member of the board is not an easy
task, nor should it ever be taken for granted.
It requires careful evaluation and knowledge
to always do what is in the best interests of
our profession. We need board members who
advocate for our profession and our podiatric
community. I believe in collaboration among
specialties, which will drive positive change in
the landscape of podiatry. We need to strengthen
our bonds within our association, which will
create a supportive network to achieve our goals
and empower our members.
I believe that I possess the vision, leadership,
and dedication to continue to shape the future of
podiatry. I firmly believe that the advancement of
one podiatrist advances all podiatrists. I need your
help. Please support me and my quest to represent
you on our APMA Board of Trustees.
