APMA'S GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE You are familiar with the APMA Board of Trustees and are aware of the various APMA committees, but do you know what role the APMA House of Delegates plays? Are you interested in serving as a delegate for your component but don't understand how that position fits into the big picture of APMA and the profession? APMA's governance structure is comprised of members at every level, and each layer is critical to the overall growth and progress of the profession. House of Delegates The House of Delegates (HOD) is made up of voting representatives from each component. They meet as a group every March in Washington, DC, to provide direction to APMA. The HOD is responsible for approving APMA's annual budget and electing APMA's Board of Trustees, including the full-voting Young Physician member. Board of Trustees The Board of Trustees is made up of 13 members who meet throughout the year to oversee the implementation of HOD initiatives and the strategic plan of the association. Committees Committees are comprised of member volunteers who work to complete specific objectives directly stemming from APMA's HOD and/or APMA's strategic plan. The APMA president appoints committees at the beginning of their term. APMA Membership YOU! Components The components work in conjunction with APMA to support and serve members. The number of members in each component determines its number of delegates in the HOD. APMA members must be a member of their state component.
