We've Hit the
Ground Running
After 11 years of service on the APMA Board of Trustees, I am
familiar with the work of our association. In my first three months
as your president, however, I have gained a new appreciation for
the sheer scope of what APMA does as it defends the profession.
Interim Executive Director Denis Russell, CPA, CAE, and I
have spent time speaking to members, leaders, and component
executives at recent meetings. I hope to meet many more of you
at our Annual Scientific Meeting (The National), August 8-11 in
Washington, DC. Register at www.apma.org/thenational.
Communication is vital to our shared success. I am working hard
to maintain open communication with every member. With that
goal in mind, I have worked with the board and APMA senior staff
to develop a new rotation for APMA's Monday Minute video updates.
You'll see updates from me, Mr. Russell, my fellow trustees,
and senior staff. Be sure to watch for them on Monday afternoons!
In recent Monday Minute videos, you met our newest board
members, who also have hit the ground running on your behalf.
Lauren Wurster, DPM, our young physician trustee, is dedicated,
creative, and eager to represent every young physician. Holly SpohnGross,
DPM, is a tremendous advocate for the profession in her
home state of California and now at the national level. She recently
advocated for the profession at the state capitol in Sacramento, and
she attended the APMA Legislative Conference in March.
The Legislative Conference was the first in-person event in
several years. This great event provided a rare opportunity to connect
directly with legislators in Congress and educate them. In
this election year, it's particularly important to be involved in our
political process. Please help by contributing to the APMAPAC at

APMA advocacy is hard at work on the regulatory front, including
addressing concerns about National Government Services
(NGS) policy changes that allow reimbursement for registered
nurses performing at-risk foot care. APMA has held productive
meetings with NGS and continues to advance that dialogue.
Regarding ongoing initiatives, the House of Delegates passed
Budgetary Action Item 3-24, which established a task force of diverse
stakeholders to explore pathways for unification of the two
CPME-recognized certifying boards. We are finalizing that task
force and will report back to the 2025 HOD. Our CEO Search
Committee is making good progress. We received many excellent
applications and are interviewing candidates.
