Building New Bridges
By now you all know that APMA has welcomed Meghan
McClelland, MBA, as our new executive director and CEO.
Meghan brings a wealth of experience to APMA; she came to us
from the Maryland Hospital Association, where she served in a
variety of leadership capacities for 17 years. Meghan also brings
a fresh perspective and a wealth of new ideas to APMA. The
CEO Search Committee reviewed more than 400 applicants for
this position, including DPMs, other physicians and health-care
professionals, and association executives. The committee was
confident that Meghan is the right person to lead APMA forward
with her energy and experience.
Meghan was able to be on site in August in Washington, DC, for
our incredible Annual Scientific Meeting, which brought together
more than 1,200 physicians and surgeons, students, exhibitors,
sponsors, and guests. She hit the ground running, meeting with our
corporate partners, our affiliate organizations, members, and other
key stakeholders. It was wonderful to see her forging relationships
before she even officially started in her new position. You can experience
our meeting in photos on page 22.
Your APMA leadership is nurturing relationships with organizations
within the profession and outside it. Since I began my presidency,
I have attended the American Medical Association House
of Delegates (HOD) and the American Osteopathic Association
HOD. I was able to meet with them and review the resolutions and
bylaws changes up for vote in their houses. In October, Meghan
and I, along with a team from APMA staff, will meet with the AMA
president. This meeting is a direct result of our outreach around
the egregious and inaccurate information posted about podiatric
education and training on AMA's website and social media channels
this summer. APMA is eager to meet with AMA to ensure this sort of
messaging will not happen again and to find new and positive ways
to work together toward our mutual goals.
In November, we will hold a townhall meeting with our 2024
House of Delegates to hear from them about issues that are top of
mind for the states. This meeting is part of APMA's ongoing effort
to reinforce the bonds between our members and their association
and between the components and the national organization.
Communication is vital to our success, and APMA wants to hear from
its members about any issues or concerns. We launched a series of
listening sessions at The National in August, which we will continue
this fall and winter to hear from individual members. We hope you will
watch for these events in your APMA publications and participate!

so that they may best represent you, and feel free to contact me
