1. The National launched with an inspiring opening session
featuring John S. Steinberg, DPM, a full-time faculty
member in the department of Plastic and Reconstructive
Surgery at Georgetown University School of Medicine
and a past president of the American College of Foot and
Ankle Surgeons. Dr. Steinberg's opening address was an
inspirational reflection on several of his own long-term
patients who were able to avoid amputation thanks to
what podiatry was uniquely positioned to offer. " I think we
underestimate ourselves a lot, " he said. " I want to encourage
others to walk through those open doorways. "

Affiliates were in the spotlight on day one with specialized
sessions on the diabetic foot pain-depression cycle,
minimally invasive surgeries, and twisting ankle injuries.
Thank you to the American College of Podiatric
Medicine, American Society of Podiatric Surgeons, and
American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine for these
outstanding sessions.
3. The APMA Podiatry School Student Quiz Bowl returned
to The National with fourth-year students from the nine
accredited colleges of podiatric medicine competing for
bragging rights, prizes, and the coveted Quiz Bowl trophy.
Rambod Aznaveleh took home the win for the Dr. William
M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin
University of Medicine and Science. Congratulations!

The latest research driving the advancement of foot and
ankle care was on display at The National during the Oral
Abstracts session and the Poster Abstracts Symposium.
Authors were on hand at the symposium to engage with
other attendees and answer questions about their work.

During the " How Would I Approach This? " panel at The
National, a team of expert physicians and surgeons came
together to review cases and engage in a stimulating
conversation about how they would approach a given
scenario. The discussion was both lively and practical. " I love
stuff that people can take home on Monday and use, " said
APMA Treasurer and panel moderator Patrick DeHeer, DPM.
6. On Sunday, attendees of The National enjoyed the gold
standard in coding education at the Harry Goldsmith,
DPM, Memorial Coding Seminar. The seminar is named in
memory of Dr. Goldsmith, a former APMA health policy
consultant and coding expert who made immeasurable
contributions to coding education. APMA Health Policy
Consultant Jeffrey Lehrman, DPM, CPC, presented this
year's seminar and covered recent changes in codes and
policy, as well as reengagement with the MIPS program as
many COVID-era exceptions are coming to an end.

APMA launched a series of listening sessions for members
to share input, questions, and concerns with the APMA
Board of Trustees and staff leadership. The first of these
listening sessions took place at The National in Washington,
DC, on Friday, August 9, with trustees answering questions
about diabetic shoes, young physician involvement, practice
management education, student recruitment, online CECH,
board certification issues, and more.
8. More than 130 vendors were on hand in the APMA Exhibit
Hall. Dermatologics, orthotics, surgical tools, diagnostics,
office equipment ... if you need it to run a podiatry
practice, it was there. Attendees met with their reps and
make new connections.
