Case Study

Focus on reducing plate counts
After experiencing the immediate
benefits of increased transparency
and better process control, the customer is now planning to further leverage the 7000RMS analyzer to reduce
costs. The plant currently conducts
2347 plate count tests per year. This
includes daily samples from the WFI
loop return and weekly samples from
points of use (POU). The customer
calculated that 68.7 hours/week were
spent on this process, from taking the
samples, running the tests and analyzing the results. With the 7000RMS
providing greater transparency into
the process, the customer is slowly
extending the duration between tests
at these sample points, with the aim

of achieving the following sampling
frequency without any negative
impact on water quality:
* Weekly samples from the WFI loop
return, from the current frequency
of once a day
* POU samples every two weeks,
from the current frequency of once
a week
Not only will this reduce the cost of
testing materials, it will also reduce
labor costs by reducing the time
spent on testing from 68.7 hours/
week to 26.7 hours/week. With this
substantial time savings the lab
personnel will be able to focus on
more value-added activities in the
plant.

Summary
With the adoption of the 7000RMS
analyzer, the customer has reaped
benefits of increased process transparency and process control, while
also lowering dependence on plate
counts to provide water quality assurance. With their focus on reducing plate counts going forward, the
customer will also be able to attain
substantial savings, further justifying their investment in the 7000RMS
analyzer. Once this is achieved, the
customer plans to purchase a second analyzer to duplicate the benefits
at other manufacturing lines in their
plant.
