Basalt Stela with relief representing the weather god. From Babylon, ca. eighth century b.c. The bearded god wears fringed tunic, knobbed and horned helmet, short sword in his belt and pointed boots. He holds his attributes, the axe and the thunderbolt. The reverse has a long inscription in Hittite hieroglyphs. Height 49 inches. Bull's Head from pottery vessel. From Tokat, fourteenth century b.c. This large libation vessel once had a spout on the back; the nostrils served as pouring holes. Details are painted, incised and modeled on a redslipped body. The halter shows that the bull is from a team belonging to a deity, perhaps the weather god. Two complete vessels of similar type were found at Bogazköy in 1963. Height 6 V' inches. 195
