ANDRONIKOS By MANOLIS Translated by MICHALIS FOTIADIS a small village located twelve kilometers southeast of Veroia, Macedonia Vergina,is the site of one of the most spectacular archaeological discoveries in recent years - two tombs filled with magnificent remains. Close by lies another larger village, Palatitsia - whose name "the small palaces" derives from the Hellenistic ruins locatèd in the vicinity. These remains were first spotted in 1855 by the French archaeologist Léon Heuzey. He began excavations at the site which were continued in 1938 by K.A. Rhomaios of the University of Salónica and completed between 1958 and 1975 by G. Bakalakis of the University of Salónica and the author.
