The island of Pontia- a narrow crescent of high limestone ridges descending in sheer cliffs to coves, each with long points and off-shore rocks- may he identified as Circe's Isle . The northcurving tait of the island (not visible on this map) breaks the surface at the Scogiietelle and Piana di Mezzo. The nautical survey team discovered the largest deposits of amphora fragments along the cliffs and rocks of the Punta della Madonna and behind the Scoglia Ravia. The green areas on the map represent the shores searched by divers; the yellow areas indicate the beaches and shallow water searched on foot; and the red areas mark the locations of concentrations of ancient sherds , whether underwater or on shore.
