AIA Holds 89th Annual
Meeting
The ArchaeologicalInstituteof America
willhold its Eighty-ninthAnnualMeetingin
NewYork,December27-30, 1987. The
meeting,heldjointlywiththe AmericanPhilologicalAssociation,is expectedto drawsome
2,000 to 2,500 attendees to the Marriott
Marquis.
The program,organizedunder the chairmanshipof ElizabethGebhard of the Universityof Illinoisat Chicago,encompassesa
wide range of archaeologicalinterests.Over
150 papers willbe presented. In addition
there willbe workshops,poster sessions,exhibits,and a varietyof specialevents.
The openingplenarysessionon December 28, followingthe Report of the President
and awardsceremonies,willfocus on site
preservation,a problemof vitalsignificance
to all persons concernedwiththe preservation of the world'sculturalheritage.Specialistsin this fieldwilldiscusstopicssuch as the
effectof air pollutionon architecture,how
to preservemasonrystructures,the preservation of mosaics,and, as a case study,
the conservationof the Templeof Augustus
