The Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) is pleased to offer Uncovering Troy in
celebration of 2018 as the Year of Troy. Twenty years ago, Troy, located in the Canakkale
province in Turkey, was placed on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This ancient
city, inhabited over thousands of years, is an archaeological site of great significance
to many cultures around the world. Uncovering Troy provides a snapshot of the history of
Troy, as well as major finds from the archaeologists who have worked at the site over
the decades.
Uncovering Troy is part of the AIA's Year of Troy project-an initiative made possible
by the generosity of AIA member Mr. Richard C. MacDonald and the invaluable
assistance and guidance of former AIA President Professor C. Brian Rose. The AIA
would also like to thank Dr. Carol R. Hershenson, Curator, Classics Study Collection,
Department of Classics, University of Cincinnati for her assistance with many
